Martin Le-May an amateur photographer from Essex near London captured this snap of a lifetime when he saw a weasel clinging onto a woodpecker’s back.
Martin said his attention was drawn to the birds “distressed squawking” at Hornchurch Country Park after the small carnivore pounced on it to search for food. he said “It’s almost a dream that you take a photograph that lots and lots of people not only look at but like”
He Spoke to ITV News that “The bird flew across us and slightly in our direction,Suddenly it was obvious it had a small mammal on its back and this was a struggle for life.”
The woodpecker Landed in from of Martins and the his wife, which made the weasel distracted and let go of the woodpecker.“Quickly the bird gathered its self respect and flew up into the trees and away from our sight,” adds Le-May. “The woodpecker left with its life, the weasel just disappeared into the long grass, hungry.”
